The Fine Print

Resources

There are countless resources at RIT to help you succeed. The resources listed on <mycourses.rit.edu> are a great place to start.

Office Hours & Appointments

For now, office hours are by appointment, both formal and informal. I keep my calendar pretty much up-to-date on Exchange, but it’s sort of terrible for scheduling. So - drop me an email, and we’ll work something. This all works best if you propose some times.

Honor Code

RIT has an Honor Code. https://www.rit.edu/academicaffairs/policiesmanual/p030 Learn it, know it, live it. But if you can’t be bothered to - don’t lie, cheat, steal, or be a jerk, idiot, or worse. Be nice to other people.

Attendance

Show up. If you miss more than 3 classes I reserve the right to fail you. Miss the first day and I reserve the right to drop you from the class and admit someone on the wait-list. To be excused from an exam, project deadline and the ilk1 you must arrange with me at least 24 hours before the exam is scheduled or work is due. Anyone missing an exam who has not been excused will receive a 0. Make-up exams must be scheduled within the week following the exam.

Lateness

Work presented late and without prior notice will receive a 0.

Extra Credit

There is no such thing as ‘extra credit.’

Plagiarism

Any act of plagiarism will result in a failing grade for the course and whatever procedures / processes I am obligated to undertake on behalf of the department, program, college, and university. I take this pretty seriously. If you’re not sure if something is plagiarism, ask.

Passing off generative AI work as your own is plagiarism. It’s OK to use those tools where appropriate, and, in fact, they are quite useful. But trying to pass the work off as your own is uncool. Credit your coauthors.

ADA

Services and accommodations are available to students covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I’ll add this stuff once I know what it is.

Slack

All that harsh stuff being said — generous swaths of slack shall be cut to those who exhibit respect for the learning process and the class in general. Please don’t abuse this tolerance.

Changes

This document subject to random changes via vis major or at my discretion.

AI Policy

There is no doubt some college-wide policy on AI. The thing is, here, we’ll be using AI. The bottom line is the same as plagiarism in general - credit other people, bots, etc. If you’re in doubt, ask.

General Policy and Governance

Have a look here for more on that https://www.rit.edu/academicaffairs/policiesmanual/policies/student

Finally

Take care of yourself. Feel free to reach out, I’ll do my best to get back to you. We’re all busy and have to prioritize things. Rest assured you are one of those priorities —
